60 transporters fined for overcharging

RAHIM YAR KHAN: The regional transport authority imposed fine of Rs 41,750 on the owners of 60 vehicles for charging fares at old rates.

A team of regional transport authority RY Khan headed by its secretary Riyasat Ali, in a crackdown against transporters checked 147 vehicles and found 72 vehicles overcharging fares. The team challaned 60 vehicles and impounded 12 vehicles for overcharging and imposed fine Rs 41,750 on their owners.

Talking the newsmen, secretary Riyasat Ali said that stern action would be taken against the transporters without any discrimination who were found charging fares at old rate. The government has brought down petroleum prices drastically and wanted to reduce transport fares in the proportion of cut in POL prices, he added.
