Routes of Muharram processions to be cleaned

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) Managing Director (MD) Irfan Ahmad Qureshi has directed to clean the routes of Muharram processions.

Talking to media, he said that cleanliness campaign is in progress adding that sanitary staff has been deployed to perform their duties.

The officer warned that strict action would be taken against those showing negligence in their duties.

He said that a control room has been set up in the office of District Coordination officer DCO under City District Government Rawalpindi CDGR.

He added that all government departments including TMAs, WASA, Health, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence would ensure arrangements of maintaining security, peace, cleanliness, availability of lights, drinking water, scanning cameras, walk through gates on the routes of the Muharram processions and at majalis places.

He directed to take special steps to clean Imambarghs falling in the jurisdiction of the 46 union councils of Rawal Town and 8 union councils of Potohar Town.

He appealed citizens not to throw garbage and filth on the streets and keep the city clean during the Muharram. Earlier, he visited different city areas to check the cleanliness arrangements. Meanwhile, 7,000 policemen would be deployed in Rawalpindi district to ensure security besides the army and rangers would also be deployed during the Muharram-ul-Harram.

It is to be stated that 316 mourning procession and 1765 of Majalis would be held from Muharram 1st to Muharram 10th.

Under the security plan, no one would be allowed to stand on rooftops of commercial and residential buildings situated along the routes of mourning processions and carry the weapons.
