Minister reviews Tarbela Dam extension projects

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Wednesday visited Tarbela Dam to review extension developmental projects T-4 and T-5 and expressed his satisfaction at the pace of work.

General Manager Tarbela Dam, Iqbal Masood Siddiqui and Project Manager briefed the minister about the extension programmes.

Talking to media, the minister said the projects were due to be completed in 2018 but on the special direction of Prime Minister the said projects would be completed by June 2017.

He said 1410 MW electricity each would be produced from these two projects , adding low rates power production would benefit the industry and agriculture sector.

He said work on all pending projects would be started soon and priority would be given to hydel projects.

The minister said Prime Minister would sign various agreements on power production during his upcoming visit to China.

He said the government was also chalking out policy to run tube-wells on solar system as production of electricity from furnace oil is very costly.

The minister directed the Tarbela Dam manager to submit progress report of the projects after every four months.
