Younis dropped from ODI team

LAHORE: The career of veteran batsman Younis Khan in one day cricket seemed to be over when national selectors on Wednesday dropped him from the one-day squad to play Australia in the United Arab Emirates next month.

The decision comes as a surprise for the aging batsman who has expressed the desire to be a part of the Pak team to feature in next year's world.

The selectors have filled the place of Younis, who is struggling with the bat , with Umar Amin and Asad Shafiq, the middle order batsmen.

Pakistan ODI squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal , Fawad Alam, Umar Amin, Asad Shafiq, Shoaib Maqsood, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shahid Afridi, Raza Hasan, Mohammad Irfan, Anwar Ali, Wahab Riaz, Junaid khan.

The decision to axe Younis seems in right direction as the batsman has not played one day cricket since March 2013 and returned home in the recent tour of Sri Lanka after the death of his nephew before scoring 3 runs in his only innings of the series.

Those who were recalled included wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmad and off spinner Hasan Raza who will fill the void created after the suspension of master spinner Saeed Ajmal due to a suspect bowling action noticed during the tour of Lanka. Sarfraz got back a place in ODI team due to his form during the test series against Lanka ,having represented Pakistan in one day in 2013.

The selectors also omitted opener Sharjeel Khan and pace bowler Muhammad Talha and Zulfiqar Babar, who was part of the squad which toured Sri Lanka.
