Thai Aug exports seen down 3.6pc y/y, factory output to fall again

BANGKOK: Thailand's exports probably fell for a second straight month in August, down 3.6 percent from a year earlier, while imports and factory output were lower again, a Reuters poll showed.

The manufacturing output index (MPI) likely declined for a 17th straight month in August, down 4.5 percent from a year earlier according to the poll. In July, output fell 5.2 percent drop.

That suggests domestic demand remains sluggish and exports have yet to recover. Industrial goods account for about 65 percent of total shipments, which equal more than 60 percent of the economy.

On an annual basis, imports have fallen 13 straight months, through July. Many imported materials are assembled into completed products and shipped out again.
