CHARSADDA: Awami National Party (ANP) believed in democracy and offered great sacrifices to protect it from being damaged by the hidden forces and will do the same in the future as well, said ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan here on Friday.

Talking to mediamen here at his residence, the ANP President reiterated his party was not supporting Nawaz Sharif but siding with parliament and democracy, adding Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri have no regards and respect for the judiciary, parliament and democracy even then he (Imran Khan) was not leaving the KPK Government.

The PTI Chief, he said disappointed when he failed in his designs to become Prime Minister after the previous general elections and started taking undemocratic and unconstitutional steps.

Imran Khan has forgotten the promises he made with the people of KPK and left them in quagmire and started politics of dharnas in Islamabad.

To a question Asfandyar Wali Khan said, the army has clearly stated that it was supporting democracy and democratic institutions in the country which is a welcoming step. The state cannot be completed without Parliament, executive, judiciary and media which are important pillars of the state.

The provincial assembly is locked for the last two months while the people have been left at the mercy of extortionists, kidnappers, he said adding the law and order situation in the province has reached to lowest ebb. Kidnapping for ransom and earning money through extortion has become a profitable business in the province while the Chief Minister of the province was busy in dance party in Islamabad for the last one and a half month.

The KPK government has failed to initiate a single development project in its 18 months rule, creating a sense of disappointment among the masses, he added.

About 2013 elections, he said ANP was not given level playing field in the electoral battle, adding worst rigging in elections took place in the KPK but it accepted election results for the sake of democracy.
