ISLAMABAD: Met Office on Friday said that a flood wave of 6-7 lakh cusecs will pass through Panjnad in the next twenty four hours.

In an interview with Radio Pakistan, Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz said that currently water level at Panjand stands at 79,000 cusecs.

He said the passage of six to seven hundred thousand cusecs water from Panjnad is likely to inundate several areas including Rahim Yar Khan, Multan and Muzaffargarh.

He said water position at Trimmu is reducing and currently 438,000 cusecs water is passing from there.

To a question, Muhammad Riaz said the chief minister Punjab has made a competent committee to take decisions on breaching of dykes without any political intervention.

About rain forecast, the chief meteorologist said Multan, Gujranwala and Lahore are likely to receive scattered rains today and tomorrow.

He, however, said these rains will not be widespread and not hamper the ongoing rescue efforts.
