IHC orders government to constitute committee on regularization of contract employees

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday directed the Federal Government to constitute a committee in the supervision of Secretary Establishment and comprising of Federal secretaries to examine the criteria of regularization of contract employees and give its recommendations within three months.

The court in its order further directed the committee to decide the matter of those contract employees which were not regularized by the respective departments even after the recommendations of previous cabinet committee.

A single member bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah resumed hearing of a plea filed by hundreds of contract employees, seeking regularization of them on the recommendation of the pervious government's cabinet subcommittee.

During the course of hearing, counsel for the petitioners apprised the bench that their departments forwarded names to the previous regularization committee for regularization of employees and the committee approved their names but department was not issuing regularization letter to them.

He prayed the court to direct the federal government to regularize their services as thousands of employees had been regularized in the light of the same previous cabinet's committee recommendations.
