NHA sets up Flood Emergency Cell, NH&MP contributes in relief activities

ISLAMABAD: For coping with recent heavy rains and floods, a Central Flood Emergency Cell has been set up at the National Highway Authority Islamabad.

For coordination and keeping updated on affected highways and motorways, and in case of any other emergency, Ikram us Saqlain Haider, Focal Person Central Flood Cell, NHA can be contacted on phone: 051-9032831 Cell: 0300-8543978.

Meanwhile on the directions of Inspector General,National Highways & Motorway Police, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema NH&MP has contributed in relief efforts in flood affected areas. The IG had issued directions to all DIGs and SSPs regarding recent flood disaster in the country and asked them to extend help to the people affected by this disaster.

Zulfiqar Cheema directed all NH&MP officers to visit the affected areas and contribute in ongoing relief activities. He further directed to render help in the process of evacuation of the people and livestock from troubled area. The Inspector General passed directions to provide dry food and clean water to the affectees. He also directed to ensure free flow of traffic on flood affected national highways.

A spokesman of NH&MP told APP that the officers of motorway police have started the relief work in affected areas. A flood relief medical camp was also set up at Jhelum Toll Plaza under the supervision of SSP Faran Baig.

He said that free medical treatment was being provided to flood victims besides food at Jhelum toll plaza and food boxes were distributed.

The spokesman said that about 600 bags of food containing rice, floor, milk, biscuits, ghee and sugar were distributed among the victims and tents were also fixed to them. Relief activities were also initiated at Wazirabad and surrounding areas under the supervision of SSP Munir Masood, he added.
