UN agencies complete 2,089 projects across Pakistan in five years

ISLAMABAD: United Nations agencies Pakistan Including UNHCR and government line departments, along with local and International Non Governmental Organizations, have completed some 2,089 projects in 41 districts across Pakistan in last five years.

According to United Nations communication Group report, after completion of these projects by UN agencies more than 4.5 million Pakistanis and Afghan refugees have benefitted.

UN agencies including UNHCR also completed the different projects completed in five Agencies in FATA during said period, report said.

UN agencies programme's interventions cover the sectors of education, health, water, sanitation and hygiene and livelihoods, report added.

Likewise, That year, UNHCR completed three education and sanitation projects in Karachi's Union Council 4 and Union Council 5.

The sanitation project was carried out in collaboration with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, and has helped improve hygiene conditions for the residents of Jamali Goth, said report.

More than 30,000 people are benefiting from the projects, as of the total 1.6 million registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan, Karachi hosts around 66,000, report added.
