10 retailers arrested, 255 fined for fleecing consumers

KARACHI: Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui sharing with media on Tuesday the daily report of ongoing campaign against the profiteers said 10 retailers were arrested while 255 others were imposed with a fine of Rs.5,59,000 for fleecing consumers, selling them low quality goods and also overcharging for the same.

He said action taken against green grocers, fruit sellers, milk sellers, grocers, flour millers was focussed on ensuring easy availability of quality items at affordable rates to the people in general.

The commissioner said assistant commissioners are directly engaged in the campaign and during the exercise undertaken on Monday 55 milk sellers, 15 grocers, 34 chicken sellers, 66 green grocers, 83 fruit sellers and one flour miller were taken to task.

They were said to be doing their respective businesses in Civil Lines, Garden, SITE Area, Baldia Town, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan e Iqbal, Gulzar e Hijri, Liaqutabad, Nazimabad, Orangi New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Model Colony.
