Treason case: Court orders FIA to provide relevant documents to Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: The Special Court, accepting the request of former president Pervez Musharraf’s legal team, ordered the Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) to provide the FIA investigation report and all relevant documents regarding treason trial to the accused.

The three-member bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali, resumed hearing of the high-profile case and directed the FIA to complete the task of handing over of joint investigation report by May 14.

The court said that the law requires that all the documents related to the case be provided to the suspect, adding that testimonies will be recorded from May 22.

Musharraf's lawyer Faisal Chaudhry told the media that today's decision by the special court was a success for the former president’s legal team.

The report is prepared by the agency on steps taken by Pervez Musharraf during his rule.

All relevant documents, testimonials and copies of witnesses would be provided to the former president had sought access to the report for his defence in the legal fight.

Musharraf has been banned from leaving Pakistan as the federal government has refused to remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
