Power shortfall forces IESCO to 6-8 hours load-shedding

ISLAMABAD: The power shortfall in the country has also compelled the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to resort to 6-8 hours scheduled power load-management across its region including twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The power shortfall in the country again surged to 2,600 MW as the total generation on Thursday was recorded at 10,100 MW against the demand of 12,700 MW at 0900 hours forcing the power distribution companies to load-management programme.

According to daily data released by National Transmission and Dispatch Company Limited (NTDC), the hydel generation stood at 3,445 MW, Thermal 1,275, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and 5,380 MW.

With rising of mercury level, the demand for electricity has also jumped to 12,700 MW.

It is pertinent to mention here that the IESCO carried out minimum load-shedding in its region during the last few weeks owing to better load- management.

Meanwhile, the IESCO spokesman also requested the consumers to use minimum electricity during peak hours (1900-2300).
