Federal govt to fully cooperate in probing Hamid Mir attack: Pervaiz

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid Sunday assured the Sindh government of full cooperation in probing the attack on senior journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir.

Talking to the media after enquiring about health of Hamid Mir at a private hospital, he said it was the responsibility of provincial government to probe the incident.

The minister assured that the Federal Government would provide all out support in this regard.

Hamid Mir was injured in an attack on his vehicle Saturday afternoon here at Shahrah-e-Faisal, when after his arrival from Islamabad at Karachi airport, he was proceeding to Geo News office.

Answering a question, Pervaiz Rashid said it would be premature to say anything as investigation was at initial stage.

He said Hamid Mir had been striving for the supremacy of Constitution and democracy.

He termed the assault on Hamid Mir an attack on the freedom of press and said those involved in this incident, were not sincere with democracy.

He called for joint efforts to uphold the freedom of press.

He vowed that the culprits would be brought to justice.
