Revolver Rani's name changed fearing backlash

According to Mid-day.com the name of Kangana Ranaut’s character in her upcoming film ‘Revolver Rani’ has been changed fearing it would receive backlash from an Indian community.

Ranaut will be portraying a bold and crazy political leader in the flick, set in rural Madhya Pradesh.

Mid-day.com quoted Ranaut as saying, “yes, my name in the film has been changed from Alka Gujjar to Alka Singh because of the elections. The makers don’t want to cause any trouble; they don’t want to offend the Gujjar community.”

Directed by Sai Kabir and produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film is a political satire which features an odd love story between Alka Singh and a wannabe Bollywood actor Rohan Mehra.

When Kabir was asked about the film’s story, Mid-day.com quoted him as saying, “all I can say is that it’s a political film. It is like a tamasha (circus) but it also has something to say about the sick practices of our society. It is definitely not preachy.”

The comedy drama, which will also feature ‘Delhi Belly’ actor Vir Das, is slated to release on April 25th, 2014.
