LONDON: The European Union sold 1.9 million spot EU carbon permits on EEX at 5.03 euros per tonne each on Tuesday, a trader said.

The sale attracted bids for 19 million units.

The benchmark EU carbon futures contract was up five cents at 5.08 euros a tonne just before the auction closed at 0900 GMT.
