LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday confirmed interim bail of former federal minister and now PTI MNA Ghulam Sarwar Khan in a fake degree case.

The court ordered the MNA to submit two surety bonds of Rs 200,000 for bail confirmation.

The single bench comprising Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan passed the orders while allowing an bail application filed by the MNA.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan through his application pleaded the court to grant bail in a case registered by the Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) against him on the charge of obtaining graduation degree on the basis of fake technical diploma to contest elections-2008. The petitioner maintained that he was allowed to appear in BA exams after submitting No Objection Certificate (NOC). He said that by mistake, wrong roll number was printed in it whereas the name was correct.

However, the prosecution submitted that the petitioner MNA received his BA degree from Islamia University on basis of a fake technical diploma (Equivalent to Intermediate).

He contended that the BA degree was also fake as it was obtained on basis of a fake diploma. The prosecution raised questions on nature of diploma, its registration number and NOC obtained besides pleading to dismiss bail application.

The court after hearing the arguments by both parties reserved the verdict on March 31 which was announced in open court today.

It is pertinent to mention that the court had already granted interim bail to the MNA Ghulam Sarwar in the case.
