CJ to hear appointment issue of CEC on March 24

ISLAMAABD: The Supreme Court on Thursday referred the matter of appointment of Chief Election Commissioner to Chief Justice, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani for final decision.

A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Sarmad Jillal Usmani, resumed the hearing of case regarding appointments of Chief Election Commissioner and vacant executive posts of deferent public departments and institutions.

During the course of proceedings, Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that certain departments were working without their chief executives and it was surprising that how a department could work without its chief.

Salman Aslam Butt, Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) apprised the bench that government had been facing some technical problems in this regard and it wanted to seriously decide the issue.

He informed that government had also constituted a commission for their appointments and after going through due process, the appointments would be finalized.

Subsequently, the bench referred the matter to the Chief Justice and now the CJ would take up the matter on March 24.
