1.08mn Pakistani workers sent to Middle East

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has sent 1.08 million Pakistani workers for employment to Middle East countries during last two years.

These workers were sent through Overseas Employment Promoters as well as direct employment.

Official sources on Wednesday said during the period - years 2011 and 2012, the authorities received demand for 0.83 million Pakistani workers from Middle Eastern countries through overseas employment promoters.

About the steps taken by government to enhance capacity of Pakistani workers, the sources said training institutions and vocational authorities, functioning under the administrative control of Federal and Provincial Governments are responsible to provide the skills and training to workers/manpower.

Moreover, they said Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development is also collaborating with Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) and NGOs to initiate technical training skills institution while Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment is also in touch with National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) to train manpower.
