Urban planning center to be developed at Planning Commission: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: An urban planning center will be set up at Planning Commission to coordinate at the national level to promote urban heritage.

This was stated by Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Professor Ahsan Iqbal at a seminar held here.

Representatives of UNESCO, National College of Arts and officials from Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform were also present on the occasion.

Professor Ahsan Iqbal thanked the UNESCO and NCA team for putting forward a project to protect the cultural and historical heritage of city of Rawalpindi.

He said that this project is a step to understand various developments aspects within the vision 2025.

He said Pakistan is the fastest urbanizing country in South Asia and the population pressure is pushing urban growth in unplanned direction which is likely to turn our cities chaotic.

To avoid such scenario it is important to focus on urban planning and blend modern approaches with traditional ideas to preserve character of our cities, he added.

The seminar was organized by Young Development Fellows.
