SC issues notices to IG FC, Home Secretary Balochistan

19 Dec, 2013

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notices to acting Inspector General of Frontier Corps and Home Secretary Balochistan in the missing persons and Balochistan law and order case.

A three-judge bench of Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani noted that despite repeated directions neither the IG FC nor the acting IG FC appeared before the court.

On Thursday, when the apex court started hearing the case, the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Munir A. Malik appeared before the court and requested to detach himself from the case saying that he remained `amacus curie' of the court in this case thus he could not appear before the court.

The court accepted his plea and appointed Additional Attorney General (AAG) Shah Khawar for this case.

The Bench asked from Shah Khawar about the appointment of acting IG FC, upon which the AAG apprised the court that a notification for the appointment of Brigadier Khalid Saleem as the acting IG FC has been issued on December 18, 2013. He further stated that another notification for the sick leave of IG FC has also been issued who was admitted in the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology.

Justice Amir Hani questioned about the appearance of acting IG FC before the court as per the directions of the apex court during the previous hearing.

Shah Khawar informed the court that acting IG FC was present in the court premises but he could not be intimated due to lack of communication.

However, after the court's order the acting IG FC appeared before the court and stated that he could not appear due to some mis-understading.

Brigadier Khalid Saleem apprised the court that the FC was doing its level best to bring peace in the province as it was fully aware of its duties.

He stated that the FC had also traced out several missing persons who would be brought to justice after due course of law.

The Bench remarked that the FC should ensure the recovery of all missing persons and also directed the IG FC to ensure his presence on the next date of hearing.

Later, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till December 16.
