Mobile phones import decreases by 2.62pc in 4 months

ISLAMABAD: The mobile phone imports into the country decreased by 2.62 percent during first four months of the year 2013-14 over the same period of last year.

The imports of mobile phone into the country during July-October (2013-14) were recorded at $217.585 million against the imports of $223.442 million during July-October (2012-13), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly the mobile phone imports during the month of October 2013 increased by 7.27 percent and 6.23 percent when compared to the imports in October 2012 and September 2013 respectively.

The mobile phone imports during October 2013 stood at $60.652 million against the imports of $56.539 million in October 2012 and $57.093 million in September 2013, the data revealed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country's trade deficit narrowed by 9.27 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year as exports expanded by 5.11 percent while imports witnessing decrease of 1.26 percent as compared to the same period of last year.

The exports from the country during July-October (2013-14) were recorded at $8.576 billion against the exports of $8.159 billion recorded during July-October (2012-13).

On the other hand, the imports during the first four months of the current fiscal year were recorded at $14.459 billion against the imports of $14.643 billion during the corresponding months of last year.
