LHC disposes of Russian woman's petition

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Monday disposed of a petition filed by a Russian woman for the custody of her minor daughter from Pakistani husband after compromise between the parties.

The single bench comprising Justice Sheikh Najam ul Hassan was hearing the petition filed by Ivanova Evgneia Victorvna, a Russian national, for custody of her minor daughter, Umaira Ahmad.

As proceedings started, the petitioner Russian national along her husband Ahmad Naseem appeared before the court and informed that they had reached a settlement after resolving their differences. According to deal, Ivanova along minor child would go to Russia and then Japan where Ahmad Naseem would join them, they added.

The court disposed of the petition in the light of statement given by the parties. The court also ordered to release the passport of petitioner.

The petitioner through her petition submitted that she married to a Pakistani national, Ahmad Naseem, a resident of Gujranawala, in Japan about six years ago. Almost 2-years after the marriage, she gave birth to a girl baby who was named Umaira Ahmad, she added. Some times ago, her husband proposed that the child should be sent to Pakistan for purpose of Islamic education but she insisted that the same could be arranged in Japan or Russia, the petitioner said. On her refusal, the husband took away the minor and came to Pakistan, she said. Ivanova pleaded the court for handing over custody of child to her.

On last hearing, the court had temporarily handed over the custody of the minor to the petitioner-mother.
