SC for logical conclusion of NICL scam

04 Nov, 2013

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday expressed displeasure over not taking action against the culprits involved in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam despite clear cut orders by the apex court.

The court also expressed the resolve that it would take the case to its logical conclusion and would not leave any stone unturned for bringing back the looted money to the national exchequer.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case regarding the multi-billion scam of NICL.

During the course of hearing, the bench noted that the looted money in the NICL scam had been shifted to the foreign banks and honest officers probing the case were transferred so as to give protection to the culprits. The bench remarked that there had been separate law for rich and poor from the last 60 years which would be terminated as everyone was equal before the law.

The bench observed that corrupt officers were always given key posts who never gave any importance to the national interest.

The bench came down hard over the performance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for not taking the culprits of the NICL to task, terming the FIA's performance as zero.

Later, the bench adjourned further hearing of the case till November 5.
