TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks edged up 0.2 percent on Tuesday, with Apple Inc suppliers such as Largan Precision gaining as investors ignored Apple's disappointing results and focused on robust demand for its new iPhones and iPads.

At about one hour into trade, the main TAIEX index had climbed to 8,422.14 points, reversing a slide at the opening bell.

Camera phone lenses maker Largan added 1 percent and smaller rival Genius gained 2.6 percent, while the electronics sub-index was up 0.2 percent.

Taiwan Life Insurance advanced 2 percent and CTBC Financial Holdings inched up 0.3 percent. CTBC is set to announce this week it will acquire Taiwan Life in a T$25.4 billion deal, a local newspaper reported.

The Taiwan dollar was up 0.166 percent to stand at T$29.411 to the US dollar.
