SC expresses annoyance over non-appearance of Salman Farooqi

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday expressed annoyance over non-appearance of Salman Farooqi, Federal Ombudsman and his counsel Wasim Sajjad as they were abroad.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed resumed the case regarding the appointment of Salman Farooqi as Federal Ombudsman.

During the course of proceeding, Advocate on Record (AOR) of the case appeared before the apex court and apprised that Farooqi had dashed to America for his treatment as he is a cancer patient

He further stated that he remained in the country in the compliance of this order but due to his disease he had to go abroad.

AOR requested for the adjournment as Wasim Sajjad, counsel for Farooqi was also not available to assist the bench.

Chief Justice articulated displeasure and marked it sluggish attitude of the respondents and stated that no one try to linger the case.

Later, while giving the time to the respondents the bench directed Salman Farooqi to appear in person on October 7 and adjourned the further hearing of the case till then.
