LHC summons Chairman FBR, others on defrauding matter

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday summoned Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Chief (ST&FE) FBR and Chief Executive Punjab Beverages Company on August 6 after director finance of the company defrauded the court by impersonating himself as an FBR representative in a case.

The court also directed Regional Police Officer Faisalabad to ensure presence of Punjab Beverages, Director Finance, Fayyaz Hussain, on next date of hearing, August 6.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the orders on a petition filed by Gourmet company against the imposition of capacity tax.

According to details, the court granted stay against the imposition of capacity tax to Punjab Beverages on a petition filed by it. Later, the Gourmet Food Company approached the court for similar relief through a petition.

During the hearing of petition, Punjab Beverages Director Finance, Fayyaz Hussain appeared and impersonated as Chief (ST&FE) FBR Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Tunio. He assured the court that FBR would not recover capacity tax from the petitioner, if the court did not grant stay to it. After assurance, the court adjourned the matter and granted interim relief on his statement.

Later, the court was informed that Punjab Beverages' director Finance defrauded it and impostor himself as a FBR representative with malafide intentions. The court took a strict note of the matter and summoned him and others on next date of hearing, August 6.

The court also recalled interim relief granted to Gourmet Company after the statement of impersonating Dr Tunio but granted interim relief already granted to Punjab Beverages in a connected matter.
