LHC orders to de-seal residence of honorary consul

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Tuesday ordered to de-seal residence of honorary consul of Russian Federation on a petition challenging Lahore Development Authority's (LDA) action to seal it.

The court also sought a reply from Foreign Affairs Ministry and Director General LDA by September 17.

Justice Ayesha A Malik passed the orders on a petition filed by Habib Ahmad, Honourary Consul of Russian Federation.

As proceedings started, the petitioner's counsel submitted before the court that the LDA authorities sealed the residence of his client situated in Gulberg-II on non-payment of fee/tax on July 3.

He said that the LDA illegally declared the property as commercial which was being used as residence. He further said that the LDA sealed the property without serving any prior notice.

He contended that the residence was exempted from fee/tax under Diplomat Act 1972. He pleaded the court to order de-sealing of the property after declaring LDA orders illegal.

However, the court after recording initial arguments ordered to de-seal the residence and sought reply from the respondents by September 17.
