ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday had restricted former Federal Minister Liaquat Abbass Bhatti from contesting the by-elections from the constituency NA-103 Hafizabad.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry also ordered that he could file his nomination papers until the verification of all his educational certificates, in a fake degree case.

The bench directed Higher Education Commission (HEC), Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and all concerned departments to expedite the process of verification.

It is to be noted that after the allegation of rigging in the constituency ECP announced for re-elections in NA-103 and he was one of the candidates.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court had also summoned the educational record of PML-Q's leader Samina Khawar Hayat, and PPP's leader Nawab Zada Nadir Magsi on the next date of hearing.
