ISLAMABAD: Secretary National Assembly Karamat Hussain Niazi Sunday accepted the nomination papers of all the eight candidates, contesting for the slots of Speaker and Deputy Speaker National Assembly.

The election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly will be held on Monday through secret balloting.

The outgoing Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza would supervise the election. She will also administer oath to the newly-elected Speaker.

While the election of deputy speaker would be supervised by the newly elected Speaker.

The nomination papers for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker were submitted at the office of the secretary by 12 noon on Sunday.

A total of four candidates are in the run for the coveted post of Speaker including the formidable Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Nawaz Yousuf Talpur of Pakistan Peoples Party, Shehryaar Afridi of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and SA Iqbal Qadri of Mutahidda Quomi Movement. While the same number of candidates are vying for the slot of Deputy Speaker, including Murtaza Javed Abbasi of PML-N, Ghulam Rasool Koreja of PPP, Munazza Hassan of PTI and Kishwar Zehra of MQM.

PML-N's Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had won National Assembly seat from NA-122 Lahore while Murtaza Javed Abbasi from NA-18 Abbottabad.

Any nominated member,in writing,can withdraw his candidature at any time before commencement of proceedings.
