Electricity shortfall rises to 6000MW

21 Apr, 2011

Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) has taken control of the grids amidst protests from power distribution companies.

However, reports suggest that Pepco is short on furnace oil as Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has refused the supply with an acute shortage at Kapco and Peeran Ghayab power plants.

The shortage has forced Pepco to shut down grid stations from the Islamabad control centre.

According to reports, only three of the 15 turbines at Kot Addu are still operational.

Meanwhile, more than 16 hours of outages have been reported in Lahore and Gujranwala.

Multan, DG Khan and adjoining areas are without power for 12 to 16 hours a day.

Interior Sindh is witnessing six to eight hours of power outages while some villages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are without electricity from 6am to 7pm.
