HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares rose 0.62 percent by the break Wednesday, aided by strong gains on Wall Street and European markets and as China released better-than-expected trade data for April.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 144 points to 23,191.09 on turnover of HK$34.14 billion ($4.4 billion).
