Dwayne Johnson misses “Pain and Gain” premiere due to hernia surgery

The Rock could not attend the event because he underwent emergency surgery on Monday for three hernia tears he reportedly sustained during his WWE match with John Cena earlier this month.

Last week, he tweeted: "Saw my Dr who had to push my intestines back thru the tear in my abdomen. Kinda romantic. Surgery is next week.” His Twitter posts after the surgery show the actor-wrestler is in good spirits: “Surgery a success! Dr repaired 3 hernial tears (fun pain). Superman is on the mend..” The post was accompanied by a picture of him flaunting his muscular build in a Superman t-shirt.

The actor plays one among a group of workout-obsessed body builders in "Pain & Gain." Based on the incredible true story of a gang of personal trainers who get involved in a kidnapping and extortion case while chasing the American dream, the film is directed by “Transformers” director Michael Bay.

Reportedly, the director feels Johnson pushes himself too hard and needs to stop wrestling 300-pound men. With his flourishing Hollywood career, he certainly doesn’t need to,. He has already starred in two of this year’s major releases including “Snitch” and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and will appear in “Fast and Furious 6” due to release next month. According to sourcres, The Rock has also signed on to play Hercules in Brett Ratner’s “Hercules: The Thracian Wars” which will release next year.
