Danny Boyle opines 3D is a phase

To the mics pointed towards him this weekend at the Empire Film Awards shortly after he was given the Empire Outstanding Contribution award, he confessed that the way 3D glasses make one feel like a prat, they make those bespectacled (like himself) feel like a double prat.

Although Boyle admitted that some of the current 3D work was extraordinary, referring specifically to Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” which he described as “incredible”, he is still skeptical about the survival of the computer graphics.

Au contraire, James Cameron, director of “Avatar” reportedly feels 3D embodies the future of the cinema. So does Peter Jackson, director of the Oscar-magnet “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, who recently released the first installment of his other Middle Earth trilogy “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” in 3D.

Danny Boyle’s upcoming psychological thriller “Trance,” stars James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel and releases in standard 2D, tomorrow.
