ISLAMABAD: Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi received a rousing welcome as he arrived here on a day long visit to Pakistan, to discuss whole range of bilateral ties with its leaders.

President Morsi was warmly received at the Aiwan-e-Sadr soon after his arrival by President Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

President Morsi was presented a salute by a contingent of the armed forces, comprising the three services. The national anthems of the two countries were played and President Morsi reviewed the guard of honour.

Mohamed Morsi who is leading a high-powered delegation is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of the President of Pakistan. He is the first civilian, democratically and freely elected President of Egypt to visit Pakistan. The last bilateral visit was by late Gamal Abdel Nasser in the 1960s.

The visit is likely to boost the traditional and friendly relations between the two large and important Muslim countries.

After the arrival ceremony the President Zardari and his Egyptian counterpart went in for one-on-one meeting, that will be followed by delegation level talks and luncheon.
