He was addressing a joint meeting of the Central Executive Committee, Lahore Zonal Committee and the Rabita Committee at the Punjab House in Lahore, according to a statement issued by the MQM here on Saturday.

He said that the establishment of a new province was the long-standing demand of the people of southern Punjab and the MQM would continue its struggle for its creation.

The meeting discussed in detail efforts for the southern Punjab province, improving the party's organisational structure in Punjab, selection of candidates for elections and other important issues.

It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the MQM would contest from each constituency in the Punjab. A resolution was also passed expressing grave concern over the declining law and order situation in the Punjab, particularly Lahore.

Speaking on the occasion, Altaf Hussain said that the MQM wanted to put the country on the path of progress and prosperity by ensuring national security.

He also expressed concern over the illness of former cricketer and member of the CEC Sarfaraz Nawaz and prayed for his well-being.
