KP formally starts provision of cheap power to industries

PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has formally launched the provision of the locally produced electricity to industries on subsidized rates to industries.

18 mega watt electricity produced by the Pehur Hydel Power Stations, Swabi is being provided on wheeling model to industries on subsidized rates for industrial development and generation of new employment opportunities. The unique model will help generate annual revenue of Rs 147 million for the province.

This was announced by Secretary Energy and Power, Mohammad Zubair Khan and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO), Engineer Naeem Khan while addressing a media briefing, here on Friday.

They said that wheeling model has been adopted as role model for provision of subsidized electricity for bringing industrial development of the province. Through the model, the 18 mega watt electricity provided by Pehur Power Station is being included in the national grid and then sold to industrial sector through the transmission line of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) on subsidized rate.

The provincial government is currently selling electricity produced by its hydel power stations to Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) at the rate of Rs 4 per unit that is further selling it through PESCO to industrial sector at the rate of Rs 18 per unit.
