The arch-rivalry between India and Pakistan, resulting from the extensive conflict that marked the Partition of British India into the two countries in 1947 and the subsequent Kashmir conflict, laid the foundations for the emergence of an intense sporting rivalry between the two nations that had previously shared a common cricketing heritage.
Thereby the India-Pakistan cricket competition is one of the most intense sports rivalries in the world. And according to TV ratings firms and various other reports, India-Pakistan cricket match has been estimated to attract up to one billion viewers.
But for decades, the rivalry has come down to one question, which is the better side altogether?
“Pakistan Are Better Than India,” this is what renowned cricket commentator Dennis Freedman wrote about two rival cricketing nations on his website and as a result the portal’s “resource limit” exceeded.
Cricket commentator Freedman has praised Pakistan cricket in his article saying, “Pakistan have just risen to the world’s number one Test playing nation. They have done this all by themselves. It is not a quirk in the system. It is not like how India got there despite not beating anyone away from home except for the 8th ranked West Indies or the 7th ranked Sri Lankan team.”
The ESPN Sports journalist also presented a number of reasons to prove that Pakistan are far more better than India.
He said Pakistan are performing the best despite the fact that three of their players were caught in spot-fixing, their players were banned for illegal bowling actions and the leg-spinner Yasir Shah failed in the dope test. However, the biggest issue is that they have not played a home Test since 2009.
Since 2008 “they have played 24 test series. They have lost only six of those. Three were against Sri Lanka, with one each to Australia, England and South Africa. They have also smashed all of those teams,” he said while adding that India hardly won any test series abroad.
He further wrote Pakistan’s progress in ICC Test Ranking was not the story of the week but a tale of the decade. “They are now the best in the world. Better than Australia. Better than England. Better than South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Despite every natural advantage that their bigger neighbours have, Pakistan are better than India. This is a fact.”
Drawing a conclusion he said: “Oh, what we would give for India to drop their false politically motivated pretenses and play Pakistan in a Test series. It wouldn’t matter if it was in London or the Emirates or Switzerland. But they won’t. India are scared of losing. Pakistan aren’t scared of losing. They are scared of not playing. Of not feeding the national psyche.”
