ISLAMABAD: Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas disappointed on the national team's performance in the Test series against Sri Lanka said the way our batsmen faced spin bowling was looking as if they didn't know how to play it.
Pakistan lost the two matches test series against Sri Lanka. Pakistan will now be playing three matches ODI series against Pakistan with the first ODI starting from August 23.
Talking to APP, Zaheer said he wasn't expecting such a bad loss from the Pakistan side. "The way Pakistan team prepared here in the training camps prior to the tour to Sri Lanka seemed like they would go there and whitewash the series but Pakistan team has let us down," he said.
Zaheer while praising Sri Lankan bowler Rangana Herath said Herath proved to be an excellent bowler in the Test series but I am really shocked that our batsmen could tackle his bowling. "The other reason for our team's defeat in the series is inconsistency in batting. In one innings our batsmen score 451 runs and in the next they are bowled out on 180 runs in the first test," he said.
Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO Arif Abbasi said he is not at all satisfied with Pakistan's current performance. "Pakistan team says they are preparing for the World Cup then what about these test matches?" he questioned adding these matches are of the same importance as the ones in the World Cup.
Arif said Sri Lankan bowler Rangana Herath has always troubled the Pakistan team.
"Herath is a massive finger spinner and he is very clever," he said.
While praising Pakistan wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed, Arif said Sarfraz has performed exceptionally well, but there is no guarantee the selectors would stick with him or not. "After what they did with Taufeeq Umar and Raza Hasan, I have no confidence in our selectors," he said.
Arif said he doesn't see Abdur Rehman in the side. "Rehman's only achievement is bowling three beamers," he said adding we are lacking a quality left arm spinner.
However Arif felt that Sri Lanka is the only team that can tour Pakistan. "We have done many favours to the Sri Lankans and they owe us," he said.
