(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the economic impact of coronavirus will worsen further and the government is raising funds to cope with the arising situation.
He said this while speaking during a telethon on a private TV channel which was held to raise funds to tackle the pandemic on Friday.
He assured those donating money in government's coronavirus relief fund that it will be disbursed through the Ehsaas programme which is free from human and political interferrence.
Currently, he said the number of beneficiaries is around 12 million, but the number will keep increasing.
The PM said that entire nation stands with health workers in the fight against COVID-19.
He maintained coronavirus cases will increase across the world, including Pakistan. "Rise in number of corona cases will also increase pressure on doctors and healthcare workers."
He assured to provide protective equipment to the doctors and paramedical staff to fight the coronavirus challenge.
The PM said the government will try to provide complete protective kits to health workers as they are imported from abroad. "The country that makes an atomic bomb can also easily make ventilators but we never focussed on our health sector," he remarked.
Imran said, "We can only win war against the disease by showing national unity."
