Covid-19 cases surge to 4,072: NCCC

The confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan have surged to 4,072, the National Command and Control Centre (NCCC)'s statistics released here on Wednesday said.

According to the report, as many as 208 new cases of the COVID-19 were reported across the country during the last 24 hours.

So far 467 patients have recovered from the deadly virus, whereas the death toll has surged to 58.

According to the NCCC, 18 deaths were recorded in Sindh, 16 in the Punjab, 18 in the KP, three in GB, two in Balochistan, and one death was reported in the federal capital.

According to the province-wise breakup of the cases Punjab tops the list with 2,030 cases, while Sindh has recorded 986 coronavirus cases so far. Moreover, 527 in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 206 in Balochistan, 92 in Islamabad, 212 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 19 cases were reported in Azad Kashmir. As many as 462 patients are under treatment at the quarantine facilities established at various hospitals.

Overall 42 per cent of the cases are said to be of local transmission in the country, while rest are of the nationals coming from abroad. The health authorities have conducted 42,159 tests including 3,076 tests during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Health Dr Zafar Mirza has clarified that warmer weather will not affect the spread of coronavirus.

Talking to media here, Mirza has rejected the theory that warmer weather slow or stop the spread of coronavirus and said that the government is trying to stop the spread of the pandemic. He also said that deaths and infections of coronavirus in Pakistan are lower than projected numbers. So far, 467 patients have recovered in the country, while 25 are in critical condition.
