Al-Azizia case: Nawaz records statement under Criminal Procedure Code
An accountability court began recording on Wednesday the testimony of deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia case, a corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik is hearing the reference case filed against the Sharif family. Sharif recorded his statements under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code. During the hearing, Sharif said that he has served as prime minister three times, chief minister, finance minister and opposition leader. Till now the court has recorded the statements of 22 witnesses in Al-Azizia corruption case. The Supreme Court granted the accountability court its last extension until November 17 to conclude the remaining corruption references against the Sharif family.
It is also pertinent to mention that Sharif has also been summoned by the SC in another case pertaining to Pakpattan shrine land case. Sharif is accused of violating the Lahore High Court order and allotting 1,800 kanals of Auqaf Department land around the Pakpattan shrine to Dewan Ghulam Qutab. The ex-PM has been summoned to appear before the top court on December 4.
