ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday granted seven days protective bail to former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in eight corruption cases against surety bonds of Rs.100,000 in each case.
A single bench of Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi granted protective bail to Gilani for seven days in the cases registered against him in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP) by FIA in Karachi.
During the course of proceedings, Faroq H. Naek counsel for Gillani pleaded before the bench that in September 16, 2013 FIA registered eight FIRs under certain PPC sections against certain accused, however the name of the petitioner was not mentioned in the FIRs.
Later on, FIA while submitting final charge sheets under section 173 Crpc in the court of special Judge Anti-Corruption name of Yousaf Raza Gillani was included as one of the accused, he argued.
Naek added that his client was innocent and his name had been mentioned in the final charge sheet by FIA with malafide and ulterior motives and termed it a political victimization or an attempt to defame his client Gillani.
He requested the court to grant a protective bail before arrest as FIA had been conducting raids at various places to arrest the petitioner to humiliate his client.
The bench granted protective bail to Yousaf Raza Gillani for seven days and directed to appear him before the Anti Terrorist Court within the time.
It is pertinent to mention here that an anti-corruption court on August 28 had issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Yousuf Raza Gilani and PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim relating to multi-billion rupee scandal in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP).
