ISLAMABAD: Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikander Hayat Khan Bosan, said that promoting agriculture growth, food security, poverty eradication and rural development were among the priorities of the government.
Addressing the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) the other day in Rome, Sikander Bosan, mentioned that the government had put in place a number of measures to effectively tackle these challenges.
He thanked the IFAD for its contribution towards government steps in this regard.
On the occasion he also referred to the IFAD Gender Award-2014 for the Asia-Pacific region given to one of the projects (Programme for Increasing Sustainable Microfinance), which has been acknowledged as a manifestation of the "quality of IFAD-Pakistan collaboration" by the IFAD President.
Keeping in view IFAD's expertise and the existing need for its projects in the country, the Minister called upon the Fund to expand its project portfolio in Pakistan.
The Minister, who is in Rome to attend the 38th session of the IFAD Governing Council, had the opportunity to meet ministers and high-ranking officials from other countries.
The Minister would have separate meetings with the heads of three UN Rome- based agencies: Food and Agriculture Organization, International Fund for Agricultural Development and World food Programme.
