imageKARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that federal and provincial governments were on same page for dealing with the menace of terrorism.

He was speaking at a consultative workshop to envisage strategy to cope with monsoon calamities and natural disasters and later talking to media persons on Wednesday. The workshop was organized by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh.

The CM said attack on Karachi airport was a challenge that was successfully met by well coordinated efforts, courage and determination of the law enforcement agencies who not only foiled heinous designs of the terrorist but also eliminated them.

"It was our collective responsibility to eliminate terrorism from the country and advised that everybody should avoid issuing conflicting statements in the best interest of Pakistan, he said while responding to a question.

He called for close coordination among all concerned authorities to effectively deal with natural disasters and said government has taken all necessary steps in this regard.

The CM said that irrigation department has been directed to re-enforce banks and protection bands along river Indus, SIDA to strengthen LBOD banks, municipal authorities to make urban drainage channels fully functional and health department for checking epidemics while district administrations have been directed to coordinate for achieving these ends.

He said that floods 2010 and torrential rains of 2011 were enormous natural calamities those affected millions of people but government dealt with the situations effectively by providing relief to affected population and rehabilitation of basic infrastructure.

Earlier, Sindh minister for revenue and rehabilitation Makhdoom Jameel uz Zaman highlighted the objectives of workshop and said that government was framing a law to remove illegal bands from river bed.

Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiana, Roshan ALi Sheikh, Director General PDMA Syed Salman Shah and others also spoke at the event.
