Actor Ranveer Singh has been stuck in another controversy after endorsing an international menswear brand, Jack and Jones. The Danish fashion brand has faced the ire of consumers on social media for an outdoor campaign featuring actor Ranveer Singh.
Latest billboard ad featuring actor Ranveer Singh has done quite some damage, showing insensitivity towards sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The ad features Singh, all decked up in formal clothes, lifting a woman on his shoulders. A butler is seen in the background, sporting a smirk. The worst part - the text reads, 'Dont hold back. Take your work home'.
Rang De Basanti actor Siddharth, who works in Tamil industry as well, has raised his voice against the ad campaign. He tweeted, "A new low for women's rights in the workplace in India. What were they thinking? #Fail".
Social media users, enraged by the blatant sexism in the ad, called out the brand for approving the idea and the actor for agreeing to be a part of this.
Jack and Jones have however, apologized for depicting a bold concept and have pulled down the billboards on immediate basis.
In an email statement to Live Mint, Vineet Gautam, country head of Jack and Jones, said, "As a progressive brand that is loved by youth the world over, we take our responsibility of always being respectful, as seriously as we do our bold attitude. We regret that a billboard of our current campaign has caused people distress. We did not intend to offend anyone, and have discontinued it immediately".
