Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is trending all over for all the wrong reasons this time. His insensitive remark has caused uproar on social networking sites as well as throughout India. While promoting his upcoming movie ‘Sultan’, he compared his struggle during the shoot to a raped woman. The statement didn’t goes down well to the fans.
Outraged Twitter users have criticised him, and the hashtag #InsensitiveSalman has been trending. On the other hand, supporters launched counter campaign #SalmanMisquoted.
Over the weekend media event to promote his new movie, Khan made an offensive rape remark, triggering outrage. He said, “While shooting, during those six hours, there’d be so much of lifting and thrusting on the ground involved. That was tough for me because if I was lifting, I’d have to lift the same 120-kilo guy 10 times for 10 different angles. And likewise, get thrown that many times on the ground. This act is not repeated that many times in the real fights in the ring. When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn’t walk straight,” Indian media reported.
But, soon he realised what he said and said, “I shouldn’t have said that, I didn’t mean literally, don’t use it”.
Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan also took to Twitter to tender an apology on actor’s behalf. He posted, “Undoubtedly what Salman said is wrong, the simili, example and the context. The intention was not wrong. Nevertheless I apologise on behalf of his family his fans & his friends. Forgiveness is to pardon the unpardonable or it is no virtue at all”.
Clearly, people are not liking this and accusing him for shame for giving such statements. The state-run National Commission for Women has demanded a public apology from Khan within seven days.
