Pakistan’s latest ‘women centric’ movie ‘Dukhtar’ has been nominated for the Oscar consideration by the Pakistani academy selection committee in the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ category at the 87th Academy Awards.
Reportedly, the film was selected by way of a secret ballot and was the overwhelming film of choice of the Committee members, a press release stated.
According to local media reports, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will choose the final nominees for all award categories including ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ by January 8, 2015. The complete and final list of Oscar nominees will be announced on January 15, 2015 with the presentation show for the 87th Academy Awards scheduled to take place on February 22, 2015.
A record number of 76 films were submitted for Oscar consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 86th Academy Awards held earlier this year. The number of internationally submitted films for this category is expected to be even greater this year, media reported.
The movie is directed by a visionary director Afia Nathaniel, the movie revolves around the mother who search for a new life for her daughter with the help of a truck driver. The road trip thriller showcases the journey of a mother and her struggle to find a happy life for her daughter.
Before releasing in Pakistan yesterday, the Pakistani movie also got a grand premiere in ‘Toronto International Film Festival’ on September 5.
