SOFIA: Bulgaria's jobless rate declined for a third consecutive month in April to 9.3 percent, down from 9.9 percent in March, reaching a seven-month low, data from the state employment agency showed on Monday.
The agency said that 305,162 people were unemployed in the Balkan country of 7.2 million people in April, some 19,147 less than a month earlier. The decline was mainly due to an increase of seasonal jobs in tourism and the processing industry.
The agency, which calculates the jobless rate based on the number of officially registered unemployed, said 27,264 people found work in April, 2,794 more than in the previous month, and 2,908 were involved in government-sponsored programmes.
The jobless rate in April 2015 was 10.7 percent.
The finance ministry expects the unemployment rate to fall to 8.6 percent this year from 9.1 percent in 2015 as domestic demand recovers.
