pervez-ashraf 4001THARPARKAR: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf says "no one should teach us lesson of politics, democracy as PPP waged unprecedented struggle and gave sacrifices for democracy in the country."

Addressing a function during visit to Sindh Thar coal reserves in Tharparkar, Sindh on Thursday, he said democracy was only way forward and comes through elections which are coming nearer. "We are not afraid of elections, rather PPP likes polls," he vowed.

Prime Minister declared that free, fair and transparent elections were the right of the masses. A consensus new Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim has been appointed and further issues would be resolved in consultation with other parties.

He said there was no reason for despondency as the PPP has roots across the country including Gilgit- Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. "Revolution has already come as the present democratic government is going to complete its five year tenure despite all difficulties," he added.

Raja Ashraf recalled that when the PPP took over power after February 2008 elections, there was shortage of wheat and atta in the country but now Pakistan was in a position to export wheat.

This happened in view of prudent politics of the PPP government, he noted.  He assured huge Sindh Thar coal reserves would be exploited expeditiously for progress, development of Sindh province and the entire country.

The huge coal deposits are "a great gift of the nature for people of the area. Pakistan's prosperity lies in Thar," he observed.

He expressed satisfaction on pace of work for exploitation of Thar coal and said three companies are already working on different projects.

Sindh government in collaboration with Engro company is working on one block, a UK company and a Chinese company were interested in other blocks. He said during briefing he was told that only one block of coal deposits would produce two billion barrel diesel.

There are many such blocks in the area. He said once coal projects are completed‚ people from different regions of the world would seek employment in Tharparkar. Prime Minister said President Asif Ali Zardari‚ Federal, Sindh governments, concerned departments are zealously working to exploit Thar coal for national development.

He appreciated spirit of renowned scientist Dr. Samar Mubarakmand who is working on coal gasification project without any salary.

He congratulated Dr. Samar Mubarakmand and his team for successfully implementing the project and announced one month additional salary for employees. He said further funds for the project have also been released.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah‚ Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira‚ Provincial Ministers, parliamentarians and officials were also present.
